1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing and using AnimateMyMap ("the Service"), you accept and agree to be bound by the terms and provision of this agreement. If you do not agree to these Terms of Service, please do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

AnimateMyMap provides a browser-based map animation studio that allows users to create, edit, and export cinematic map videos. The Service includes both free and paid subscription tiers with varying features and limitations.

3. User Accounts

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country) to use the Service. By using it, you confirm that you meet this requirement.

To access certain features of the Service, you must register for an account. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration
  • Maintain and promptly update your account information
  • Maintain the security of your password and accept all risks of unauthorized access
  • Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what information we collect and how we process it.

4. Early Access Benefits

Accounts created during the pre-launch or beta period may carry legacy benefits, such as loyalty discounts on paid plans. This status is tied to the original account, is non-transferable, and is subject to verification.

5. Subscription and Payment

Paid subscriptions (Basic and Pro plans) are billed in USD, monthly or annually depending on the plan you choose. Payments are processed by a third-party payment provider acting as our Merchant of Record. They collect any applicable taxes (sales tax, VAT, etc.) and issue the invoice in your jurisdiction. You agree to:

  • Pay all fees associated with your chosen subscription tier
  • Provide current, complete, and accurate billing information
  • The subscription automatically renews at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual) unless canceled beforehand via the billing portal linked from your account page
  • Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period. You retain access until then

5a. Refund Policy

We offer a 14-day full refund window on all subscription purchases:

  • Within 14 calendar days of purchase: full refund, no questions asked. Contact support or request the refund via the billing portal linked from your account page.
  • After 14 days: refunds are not available. You can still cancel auto-renewal at any time to prevent future charges, and you retain access through the end of the current paid period.

This policy applies to the subscription fee itself. Chargebacks initiated outside this window may result in account suspension. Promo codes and referral rewards are non-refundable.

6. Plan Features and Fair Use

Subscription tiers differ by features rather than by a fixed number of videos. Video creation is unlimited within fair use:

  • Free: 720p, 30 FPS, watermarked output
  • Basic: 1080p, 60 FPS, no watermark
  • Pro: 4K, 60 FPS, custom map style and priority rendering

"Unlimited" is subject to fair use: it covers normal personal or professional creation of map videos. Automated, bulk, or abusive usage (for example scripted mass rendering, or activity that places a disproportionate load on our infrastructure) is not permitted and may result in service interruption or account suspension. See Section 8 (Prohibited Uses).

7. Intellectual Property

You retain all rights to the videos you create using AnimateMyMap. However, by using the Service, you grant us a limited license to store and process your content for the purpose of providing the Service.

All AnimateMyMap branding, interface design, and underlying technology remain our exclusive property.

Copyright complaints. If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright or other rights, contact us at [email protected] with a description of the work, the location of the allegedly infringing material, and your contact information. We will review valid reports and remove infringing content where appropriate, and may suspend repeat infringers.

8. Prohibited Uses

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Violate any laws or regulations
  • Infringe on intellectual property rights
  • Distribute malware or harmful code
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems
  • Use the Service for automated or bulk operations without permission
  • Resell or redistribute the Service

9. Service Availability

We strive to maintain 99.9% uptime but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be temporarily unavailable for maintenance, updates, or unforeseen circumstances.

10. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time for violation of these Terms. Upon termination, your right to use the Service will immediately cease.

11. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.

12. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service will not exceed the total amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless AnimateMyMap and its operators from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use of the Service, your content, or your violation of these Terms or of any law or third-party right.

14. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, that provision will be limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will stay in full force and effect.

15. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and AnimateMyMap regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements or understandings.

16. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Türkiye, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. The courts and enforcement offices of Ankara shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service. This does not deprive consumers of any mandatory protections they are entitled to under the laws of their country of residence.

17. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify users of significant changes via email or in-app notification. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

5. Google OAuth

If you sign in using Google OAuth, we receive:

  • Your Google account email address
  • Your public profile information (name, profile picture)
  • A unique Google ID for authentication

We do not access your Google account beyond this basic information and do not store your Google password.

6. Cookies and Tracking

We use a small number of cookies, grouped into two categories:

Essential cookies (always on)

  • session: A signed Flask session cookie that keeps you signed in while you use the Service. HTTPOnly, SameSite=Lax.
  • remember_token: Optional long-lived cookie set only when you tick “Remember me” on sign-in, so you don’t have to log in again on the same device.

Essential cookies are required for the Service to function and cannot be turned off.

Anonymous analytics

We use a self-hosted instance of Umami to count pageviews and a small set of aggregate events (sign-up, video render, subscribe intent, feedback sent). Umami does not set cookies, does not collect personal data, and the data never leaves our servers. No third-party analytics or advertising is loaded.

If we add anything in the future that does require consent, it will only load after you grant it through the cookie banner. You can review or change your preferences anytime via the Cookie Preferences link in the footer.

7. Data Storage and Security

We implement appropriate security measures to protect your information:

  • Passwords are encrypted using industry-standard hashing
  • Data transmission is encrypted using SSL/TLS
  • Regular security audits and updates
  • Limited employee access to personal data

However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Video Content

Videos you create using AnimateMyMap are stored on our servers for up to 1 month so you can access and re-download them, after which they are automatically deleted. We do not store your videos permanently. After that period we keep only metadata about your videos (such as date and resolution), not the video content itself. You retain all rights to your content, and we do not use it for any purpose other than providing the Service to you.

9. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. You may request account deletion at any time, after which we will delete your data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

You have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of your personal data
  • Correction: Update inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your account and data
  • Export: Download your data in a portable format

11. Children's Privacy

AnimateMyMap is not intended for users under 13 years of age (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, where that age is higher), consistent with our Terms of Service. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below that age. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

12. International Users and Data Transfers

AnimateMyMap is operated from the Republic of Türkiye and these matters are governed by Turkish law. Some of the third-party providers we rely on (for example email delivery, authentication, fonts, and map tiles) are located outside Türkiye, so your information may be transferred to and processed in other countries. The specific providers and the legal bases for these transfers are listed in the KVKK section below (Section 14, "International Transfers"). Where data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate legal bases and safeguards.

13. Changes to Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email or through the Service. Your continued use after changes indicates acceptance of the updated policy.

14. Additional Disclosures for Turkish Users (KVKK)

This section addresses the disclosure obligation under Article 10 of Turkish Law No. 6698 on the Protection of Personal Data ("KVKK") for users located in Türkiye. It should be read together with the English sections above.

14.1 Data Controller

The data controller responsible for processing your personal data is İsmail Ergün, a sole proprietor operating under the name AnimateMyMap, registered with the M. Karagüzel Tax Office, Ankara, Türkiye.

14.2 Categories of Personal Data Processed

  • Identity: username
  • Contact: email address
  • Customer Transaction: account creation, sign-in, password changes, the videos you create (stored on our servers for up to 1 month, then automatically deleted) and their metadata (date, resolution, etc.)
  • Visual: your Google profile picture, if you choose to sign in with Google
  • Transaction Security: password hash value, IP address, browser information, session cookies
  • Financial (future): when you use a paid subscription, payment details are collected directly by a third-party payment processor; card data is not transmitted to our servers

14.3 Method of Collection and Legal Basis

Your personal data is collected electronically: directly from you through the registration form, via Google OAuth, and automatically while you use the Service (session, logs). Under KVKK Article 5, processing relies on the following legal bases:

  • Art. 5/2(c) establishment or performance of a contract: creating your account and providing the Service
  • Art. 5/2(ç) compliance with a legal obligation: retention required by law, responding to requests
  • Art. 5/2(f) legitimate interest: security, fraud prevention, service improvement
  • Art. 5/1 explicit consent: for any optional analytics cookies added in the future, obtained through the cookie banner

14.4 Purposes of Processing

14.5 International Transfers (KVKK Art. 9)

To operate the Service we use the third-party providers listed below, which are located outside Türkiye, so your personal data is transferred abroad. Following the amendments to KVKK Article 9 (in force since 1 June 2024), where there is no adequacy decision for the destination country (there is currently none for the USA), such transfers are made on the basis of the appropriate safeguards provided for in Article 9, namely the standard contract published by the Turkish Data Protection Authority (the Board). Because these transfers are regular and systematic rather than incidental, we do not rely on the occasional exceptions (such as explicit consent or performance of a contract) as the primary basis.

The providers we transfer data to are:

  • Resend Inc. (USA): sending transactional emails such as verification and password reset. Data transferred: email address and username.
  • Google LLC (USA): if you use Google OAuth: authentication, email, name, profile picture.
  • Google Fonts (CDN): your browser may connect to Google servers to load fonts, during which your IP address and browser information may be visible.
  • OpenStreetMap tile servers: your browser connects directly to these servers for map tiles, during which your IP address may be visible.

14.6 Data Subject Rights (KVKK Art. 11)

As a data subject, under KVKK Article 11 you have the right to:

  • Learn whether your personal data is being processed
  • Request information if your personal data has been processed
  • Learn the purpose of processing and whether your data is used in line with that purpose
  • Know the third parties to whom your data is transferred, domestically or abroad
  • Request correction of incomplete or inaccurate data
  • Request erasure or destruction of your data within the conditions set out in the KVKK
  • Request that any correction, erasure, or destruction be notified to third parties to whom your data was transferred
  • Object to a result against you arising from the exclusively automated analysis of your data
  • Request compensation if you suffer damage due to unlawful processing of your data

You can delete your account entirely at any time via Account → Delete account. You can send other rights requests to [email protected]; your requests will be resolved within 30 days at the latest.

14.7 Retention Period

Your personal data is retained for as long as your account is active and for as long as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, your data is removed from our systems within 30 days at the latest, except where retention is required by law.

14.8 Cookies

The cookies used on our site fall into two categories:

  • Essential cookies (always on): session to maintain your session and the optional remember_token.
  • Optional cookies (require explicit consent): there are currently no analytics or marketing cookies in use. If any are added in the future, they will load only after you grant explicit consent through the cookie banner.

AnimateMyMap is built on open map data and open-source software. The maps, borders, and imagery you animate here aren't ours alone, they come from a handful of projects and public datasets whose authors made their work freely available. This page credits them and lists the licenses we rely on.

Basemaps

The studio offers four map looks, and they draw on different sources.

Dark, Light & Custom (vector)

These three styles are served live by OpenFreeMap, a free tile host. They use the Liberty style on the OpenMapTiles schema, drawn from OpenStreetMap data, which we recolour per style. Wherever one of these styles is on screen, the map carries the credit OpenFreeMap asks for: OpenFreeMap © OpenMapTiles Data from OpenStreetMap.

Satellite (raster)

The satellite look isn't a live service. We rendered it once into our own WebP tiles (zoom 0 to 8) by blending three public datasets: NASA's surface imagery for the land, GEBCO's seafloor depths for the ocean colour, and NASA's elevation data for the hillshade. All three are free to use; each is credited below.

  • NASA Blue Marble: Next Generation, land and surface imagery from NASA's Earth Observatory. NASA imagery is generally not subject to copyright in the United States.

Borders, places & history

  • Country shapes come from Natural Earth, which is in the public domain. It asks for no credit at all, but the work is worth naming.
  • Historical empires and borders, the Roman and Ottoman empires and the rest of the history library, are built from OpenHistoricalMap data, © OpenHistoricalMap contributors, under the ODbL.
  • Place search, when you look up a city, region, or landmark, is powered by OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service, © OpenStreetMap contributors, under the ODbL.

Flags

The country flags you can drop onto the map come from Flagpedia (flagcdn.com), which builds them from public-domain vector files on Wikimedia Commons. A couple of flags for partially-recognised states are taken from Wikimedia Commons directly. All of them are public domain.

Fonts

The interface, map labels, and the editor's text styles use type from Google Fonts: Inter and Space Grotesk for the app itself, plus a set of display faces in the studio (Oswald, Anton, Bebas Neue, Righteous, Teko, Russo One, Black Ops One, Bangers, Cinzel, Playfair Display, Merriweather, Raleway, Poppins, and Montserrat). Every Google Fonts family ships under either the SIL Open Font License 1.1 or the Apache License 2.0. The small watermark baked into exported videos is drawn with DejaVu Sans.

Software

The studio itself runs on a few open-source libraries:

  • MapLibre GL JS, the WebGL renderer that draws every map. BSD-3-Clause.
  • Turf.js, the geospatial maths behind merging shapes, measuring distances, and finding centres. MIT.
  • GSAP, the animation engine behind the landing page and parts of the timeline. Free to use, commercially included, under GreenSock's standard "no charge" license.
